Course details
Corequisite(s): CHEM 1006 Chemistry 100.
Stereochemistry. Aqueous equilibria; buffers and acid-base indicators. Thermodynamics and chemical equilibria. Oxidation states, redox reactions and basic electrochemistry. Spectroscopy and structure determination (infra-red, uv-vis, 1H n.m.r., crystallography). Introductory d-block chemistry (redox states, complex formation, electronic structure) and its role in enzymes. Spectroscopy. Properties and reactions of haloalkanes, alcohols and ethers, aldehydes and ketones, carboxylic acids, amines, amino acids and proteins. Structure and properties of biopolymers.
