Corequisite(s): BIOL 2054 Scientific Basis of Clinical Practice 1.
Lifelong learning and problems solving: systematic literature reviews and clinical guidelines: health history, assessment and promotion: physical examination mental health assessment applied to the adult: common diagnostic studies and nursing responsibilities: client and family teaching: health promotion for the adult population: nursing assessment and management of pain, hydration states and fluid replacement therapy, quality use of medicines substance use and dependency, perioperative care, inflammation infection and healing (including wound care): legislation and policy informing practice including consent to treatment, Mental Health Act, Palliative Care Act, Poisons Act and the administration of medications Coroners court, Tissue transplantation: sexual identity and sexual health: Nursing assessment and management of the client experiencing problems related to oxygenation and ventilation, haematological and cardiovascular dysfunction: ingestion, digestion, absorption and elimination dysfunction: acute illness/trauma: mental health issues including depression, delirium, suicide, psychosis, schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder (BPAD), personality disorder, dual diagnosis: nursing skills in electrocardiograph – recording and basic interpretation, Doppler assessment, intravenous therapies, enteral feeding, total parenteral nutrition, ostomy care
