Access plans
To assist students with disabilities identify the services and study supports they may need and to negotiate reasonable adjustments with academic staff, disability staff compile a document called an Access Plan. This is required for all students that choose to access disability related supports while studying. The plan is compiled in conjunction with the student and is tailored to meet their study needs. Each student is provided with a hard copy of their Access Plan and a copy is generally sent to the Program Director for information. Examples of the information contained in an access plan include:
- the impact of a student’s disability and/or medical condition on their course of studies
- services provided to the student by the tertiary institution
- any agreed variation to exam arrangements
- information provided by the student to the Disability Service
- information provided by any relevant service providers
- documentation provided by the student from an appropriately qualified practitioner regarding their disability and/or medical condition
- information provided by relevant tertiary staff
