Aim
The program is designed to provide the fundamentals of the education and training necessary for the effective management of occupational health and safety in organisations.
Entry requirements
A relevant first degree, advanced diploma, three-year diploma or equivalent from a recognised higher education institution, together with a minimum of two years of appropriate work experience.
For international applicants for whom English is a second language, the minimum English language requirements are those which are standard within the Division and are outlined as follows:
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test - a minimum score of 6.0 in Reading and Writing subscores and a minimum overall score of 6.5;
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - a minimum score of 55 (21 in the computer based test) in Reading and Structure/Writing subscores and a minimum overall score of 575 (232 in the computer based test);
- South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE);
- University Entrance Certificate (CELUSA) - a minimum score of 70% for the three test/examination items and a minimum score of 60% for the other seven items; or
- Previous successful secondary or tertiary study where English was the first language of instruction.
Content/structure
The program is taught cooperatively by the University of South Australia and the University of Adelaide and requires completion of a total of 18 units. The program is offered internally and online, and is undertaken in one year of part-time study.

The program is recognised by the following professional bodies: Safety Institute of Australia, Australian Human Resource Institute, Ergonomics Society of Australia, and The Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists.
Fee information
Fees for Domestic students: Commonwealth SupportedFees for Commonwealth Supported Students are calculated at the course level. Click on individual courses in the schedule below to determine total program fees.
Fees for International students: $AU 9,250 per 0.5 EFTSL for students commencing in 2010.
Fees are calculated on a per Unit basis with 1.0 EFTSL = 36 Units.
Fees for International students are determined one year in advance and are subject to variation.

Rules
- Progress: students achieving a grade of P1 or more in all courses in the graduate certificate will be eligible to enrol in the Graduate Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Management (IGOY).
Notes
- This program is offered on a part-time basis only.
- This course is offered by the Department of Public Health, University of Adelaide. Students must enrol at the University of Adelaide through cross-institutional enrolment.
- Credit: consideration will be given to granting credit to students who have partially completed equivalent programs interstate, up to maximum of two courses. Appropriate credit will be granted to students who have partly completed the former graduate diplomas at the University of South Australia and University of Adelaide. In exceptional cases, credit will be granted for up to one course to students who have undertaken relevant study at a TAFE institution.
