Aim
To promote competence of health and safety practitioners in the practical management of health and safety issues by learning to evaluate problems and apply appropriate scientific solutions.
Entry requirements
A relevant first degree or higher qualification from a recognised higher educational institution, together with a minimum of two years of relevant practical experience is required. Alternatively, applicants who have completed the Graduate Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Management with a credit average or higher will be eligible for entry into the Master of Occupational Health and Safety.
English language entry requirements
For international applicants for whom English is a second language, the minimum English language requirements are:
International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic): Minimum score of 6.0 in Reading and Writing subscores and minimum overall score of 6.5 obtained within the last two years or corresponding results from an equivalent test such as TOEFL or the appropriate Academic English language level delivered at CELUSA; or
Successful completion of a tertiary qualification at diploma level or above completed in Australia within the last two years; or
Successful completion of two or more years of tertiary study at diploma level or above conducted and completed in English within the last five years in a country in which:
- English is an official language; or
- English is commonly used, as determined by the University.
Where the study in English was more than five years ago, this requirement may be satisfied by subsequent and recent work experience of two or more years duration in a setting where English is the language of business subject to satisfactory evidence as determined by the Program Director.
Content/structure
This program is taught cooperatively by the University of South Australia and the University of Adelaide. The program structure comprises a total of 54 units, made up of 5 compulsory courses (22.5 units), 13.5 units of elective courses, and a research thesis (18 units). The program is offered internally and online; and is undertaken in 1.5 years of full-time or equivalent part-time study.
Professional Recognition
This program is recognised by the Safety Institute of Australia, Australian Human Resource Institute, Ergonomics Society of Australia, Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists and Australasian Faculty of Occupational Medicine.

Fees for International students: $AU 18,500 per 1.0 EFTSL for students commencing in 2010.
Fees are calculated on a per Unit basis with 1.0 EFTSL = 36 Units.

Rules
- Students intending to undertake the Masters degree must undertake a Research Methods course in place of an elective.
- Credit will be granted to students who have successfully completed courses towards the Graduate Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Management (IGOY).
- Consideration will be given to granting credit to students who have partially completed equivalent university level studies, up to a maximum of four courses.
Notes
- Students enrol in those courses offered at the University of Adelaide through cross-institutional enrolment.
- The Masters Degree is offered on both a full-time and a part-time basis.
- This program is offered internally and externally.
- Electives are to be chosen in consultation with the Program Director and are subject to prerequisites, corequisites and timetabling.
