Research interests
- I have a long standing research interest in domestic violence, dating violence and gender inequality in heterosexual relationships. In recent years, I have worked as a research consultant to the Australian Commonwealth and State Governments on domestic violence policy and programs. Key national domestic violence research studies include: a study of women’s homelessness following domestic violence, gender symmetry in the perpetration of domestic violence, an evaluation of the Australian government’s domestic violence initiative, studies on the effectiveness of programs for men who use violence in intimate relationships and examining integrated service responses to domestic violence for women, men and children.
- The research has a strong applied focus which examines how the state and the community could more effectively prevent and respond to gendered violence.
- I supervise honours and research degrees students in areas of gendered violence, sexuality and social policy.
- I am a Chief Investigator on three current Australia Research Council Grants examining dating violence and the effectiveness of domestic violence perpetrator programs.
