I joined the University of South Australia in 2010 as a Research Professor of Autonomous Systems at the Defence And Systems Institute (DASI).

I have published two books and authored around ninety book chapters, journal articles, research reports, and refereed conference papers. My research has also informed governmental and international bodies and been cited as evidence in a number of criminal trials. I am an editor of three international academic journals and serve on the editorial review board of a fourth. I have been a keynote, plenary, or invited speaker at several international conferences and has given many invited lectures, tutorial workshops, and academic courses at domestic and overseas research institutes and universities. I have also received a number of international awards for my research.

I graduated from Cambridge University in 1989 with a PhD in Satellite Navigation. Before moving to South Australia to join the Defence Science & Technology Organisation in 1991, I worked as a research consultant for a number of commercial and government organisations in Europe.

My primary research interests are in Autonomous and Unmanned Systems (and multi-vehicle or 'systems of autonomous systems' in particular), but I have a very wide range of background technical expertise including: spacecraft design & environmental test; atmospheric modelling & sounding; radio wave propagation; geodetic surveying, satellite navigation & navigation warfare; distributed (or 'network centric') electronic warfare (EW); communications EW; hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) simulation; and systems & systems of systems integration.
