David returned to Adelaide in late 2005, after working in Perth since 1994. For the past 30 years he has been involved with public relations and the media at the operational and executive management level covering emergency services, transport and the energy sectors of industry.

In the mid 90's he was appointed Adjunct lecturer at the School of Communication and Multi Media, Edith Cowan University and after leaving the corporate world in 2001, David became a contract Lecturer and Tutor in Journalism, Public Relations and Advertising at the School. In addition to this he continues to mentor many Australian and international students in their career and professional development.

Since January 2006, The School of Communication at UniSA has been his new sessional teaching home. David is excited to be teaching in the new BA Public Relations; Journalism, Advertising (BA), both on-shore and off-shore Singapore, and in Hong Kong for the MA program in Brand Management.

David has joined Dr Joy Chia as a Fellow of the Public Relations Institute of Australia (PRIA). His elevation to the Fellowship is in recognition to his outstanding contribution to the Institute and the public relations profession. David was formally honoured as a special dinner and presentation in Sydney in October 2007.

David commenced his PhD at the School of Communication (UniSA) in July 2006 and is researching Pie Floaters, Fritz and Shoe Boxes: The Photographic Legacy of the Australian Baby Boomer.

BA, Mass Communications 1988, University of SA (former SACAE) majors in Public Relations and Information Management.


Research interests

  • Pie Floaters, Fritz and Shoeboxes, the photographic legacy of the Australian Baby Boomer, how it has been used, how it shaped their lives, and what will happen to this anthology of family photography. I am currently investigating this further for my PhD - Professional Doctorate of Communication.
  • My research for the MPC (Edith Cowan University, Perth WA) was an ethnographic discovery of contemporary Australian Street Photography and I have maintained an avid interest in this genre of photography.
