Visual Art Productions
- The visual art and artefact exhibition entitled, "The Heart of Acceptance: Cultural Healing Uncovered", was held at the South Australian Migration Museum, Adelaide between June and August 2001. For a year Associate Professor Procter led a team working with people from Adelaide's Cambodian, Persian, Afghan and Italian communities in a project called "Reciprocity in Education" and this exhibition is just one of the outcomes. Participants from forensic mental health, crisis intervention services, continuing care teams, community based care teams, inpatient care teams including mental health nurses, psychiatrists, social workers and psychologists, and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds worked together on issues of sadness and depression (culturally defined). This exhibition reflects the autobiographical presence of community engagement between people involved in the project.
More than 30,000 people viewed the exhibition during its three month display and the collaboration has resulted in a high level of mutual understanding and cooperation among mental health workers and members of culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
More information about this innovation is available in Farsi (Persian), Italian, Cambodian and English from Associate Professor Procter.
