Academic Integrity Officers

As part of the University’s commitment to academic integrity, Academic Integrity Officers have been nominated in each school. These staff have an educative role with staff and students and also deal with cases of academic misconduct at the initial inquiry level. Their role enables:

  1. consistent interpretation and implementation of policy
  2. streamlined management of reported instances of academic misconduct within each discipline, ie management up to the level of involvement of formal committees
  3. consistent use of plagiarism detection tools in sampling and targeting student work within each discipline
  4. consistent judgments to be made on cases of academic misconduct
  5. consistent outcomes when academic misconduct is proven
  6. regular reporting to relevant Heads of Schools, school boards and division teaching and learning committees (Assessment Policy Section 9.4).

Note: For research degree students academic integrity matters are dealt with by the Deans of Research.

The coordination of Academic Integrity Officers across the University is managed by Margaret Hicks, Associate Director: Teaching and Learning, Flexible Learning Centre.
