Relocation – why?
As more and more organisations continue to expand their operations to achieve a global presence there will be an increasing requirement for people who can contribute both global and cross cultural business experience to the organisation.
For many people therefore, the question of whether to relocate interstate or overseas is likely to arise at some stage in their career. Common reasons why people relocate either at the commencement of, or during, their career include:
-
A requirement to relocate as a condition of employment, or as part of a planned promotion by your current employer.
-
Employment opportunities in your chosen occupation/profession are severely limited, and you are unable to find work in your current location.
-
Further progression in your career is unlikely in your current location/employment and relocation becomes necessary either to take a promotion, or to access ongoing professional development or education necessary to your career progression.
-
You want to either broaden your professional experience, or become increasingly specialised, and these opportunities are unavailable locally.
-
For family, or other personal reasons such as a change in climate needed to maintain health.
-
You are seeking a change in lifestyle, or work/life balance.
-
You are seeking better financial rewards, or an improvement in your financial circumstances.
-
Your partner (or other key family member) is required to relocate as part of their employment.
