Style of writing
It is worth carefully considering the wording of your resume. In the same way that the writing style of your assignments differ from reports writing and emails, your resume will also differ.
-
Write in bullet points.
-
Avoid use of personal pronouns, for example, 'I', and 'my'.
- Where appropriate use positive action words, especially to start sentences, for example, 'contributed', 'organised', 'planned'.
You can further improve your wording by using professional business language and adapting it to the employer.
-
Use key words mentioned in selection criteria and the position description. By using the employer's language the employer is more likely to identify with what you are saying.
- Quantify your achievements where possible by using numbers to show the length of time something took, or the number of people involved.
