Sources of assistance
Both federal and state governments recognise the important contribution that small business makes to the economy. For this reason they provide various forms of assistance, including access to financial support, to people who are intending to be, or already are self employed. Below are some links to web sites that offer assistance and advice:
Information about assistance available to unemployed people for setting up their own business – Workplace (New Enterprise Incentive Program)
State government with importing and exporting – Service SA
ASIC (Australian Securities and Investments Commission) – ASIC
In addition to these sites, various industry and employer representative organisations also provide advice and assistance, which may or may not be free of charge. To find the contact details of these organisations, simply conduct an internet or yellow pages search.
The link to this site, Business SA, is an example of an employer representative organisation.
