Statement of Service
Vision
All UniSA students have the opportunity to develop the career management skills that will help them to move self sufficiently into and within a dynamic labour market, and to fulfil their potential through sustainable employment.
Mission
The Career Services team aims to enhance the employability of UniSA students by facilitating opportunities for the development of lifelong career management skills and work-integrated learning. In collaboration with academic staff, employers and alumni we also work to maximise successful graduate employment through the provision of high quality information, guidance and advice to students and staff.
Students
Who can use our service
Our services are available to all students currently enrolled in programs of study at UniSA. Our jobs and events database, MyCareerPlan, may be accessed by all graduates of UniSA indefinitely. Career consultations are available to graduates for one year after the completion of their program.
Information for prospective students is available from future student enquiries.

Online information and resources
The Career
Services website offers comprehensive information about career
decision-making, exploring your career options, preparing for the
professional workforce and successful job seeking.
Jobs and events database
You can register with
MyCareerPlan to
access vacancy listings for graduate roles, part-time, casual and work
experience opportunities. You can also register for Career Services events
on MyCareerPlan.
Individual guidance
- 10 minute career consultations at your campus Learning Connection or by telephone
- half hour appointments offered at the discretion of the Careers Adviser.
Employer events
These include employer presentations on campus, career expos and
skill development workshops.
Career management skill workshops and activities
These include lunchtime workshops, workshops within your program and
workshops targeted to specific students (for example, postgraduates).
What you can expect from us
Guidance, information and advice which is:
- Free, impartial, transparent, accessible and focused on the needs of the individual.
- Unbiased towards particular education, training or employment.
- Culturally appropriate and reflective of the diversity of students needs.
- Confidential within the Careers Service (for limitations on confidentiality, for example, in the case of a criminal investigation, please see the University’s policy on Confidentiality of Students’ Information).
- Adherence to the University’s Code of Ethics, and policies on: Confidentiality of Students’ Information, Anti-racism, Equal Opportunity, Students with Disabilities.
- Provided by staff who are members or associate members of the National Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services, a national network of university careers professionals who collaborate to develop and share best practice.
What you can do to ensure our service is effective
- Consider your career opportunities early in your program so you can make the most of Career Services resources.
- Keep appointments for consultations and booked events, and to let us know in advance if you are unable to do so.
- Prepare for consultations, workshops or events if requested to do so.
- Conduct yourself in a professional manner in your dealings with employers and guest speakers at careers events.
- Complete evaluation forms for Career Services activities.
- Join UniSA Alumni after you graduate so we can keep in touch with you about career opportunities and events.
- Respond to requests for information on what you are doing shortly after graduation.
How to access our services
- Our website includes information about career planning, job-seeking and preparing for the workforce, and registration for our jobs and events database, MyCareerPlan.
- Career consultations and limited hard copy information about graduate vacancies are accessed through your campus Learning Connection.

Limitations of our service
- We cannot write or rewrite your resumé for you – but we can help you learn how to write a great resumé yourself.
- We offer a maximum of three one-to-one career consultations per student in any year.
- We cannot advise on immigration or visa matters, although we can draw attention to relevant sources of information.
Feedback and evaluation
We regularly review our services and resources and your feedback is extremely valuable in determining how we can increase our effectiveness. Occasionally we seek feedback in the form of questionnaire on specific aspects of our service. In such instances, any information provided will be treated with discretion and no information about individual respondents will be made available to others.
Feedback may be provided to any member of the Career Services team; if you are not sure who to contact, please send your comments to the Manager, Frederick Stokes-Thompson.
If you are dissatisfied with the response you receive, you should refer it in the first instance to Manager, Frederick Stokes-Thompson, or the Manager, Flexible Learning Centre Operations, Jenny Ransome. If you remain dissatisfied, please refer to the University’s Policy and Procedures for the Resolution of Student Grievances.
