distance education:
             an open question?

11-13 September 2000
Adelaide, Australia

The University of South Australia, in conjunction with the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE), invite you to participate in the first major internationally supported distance education and open learning conference for the new millennium.

We are delighted to present the conference with the support of the National University Telecommunications Network (NUTN), North America, the Open and Distance Learning Association of Australia (ODLAA), and the Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU), and the Australian Technology Network (ATN).

The world conference will take place from 11-13 September 2000, prior to the Sydney Olympic Games. Preliminary Olympic events in soccer (football) are to be held in Adelaide during the period of the conference. Overseas visitors may wish to extend their visit to include a stopover at the Sydney games, commencing on 15 September.

The change of the millennium is a fitting time for celebration, review and new enterprise. The conference embraces these themes by inviting discussion about accomplishments in open and distance education and by sharing our visions for the future. The conference promotes innovation informed by excellence.

Along with our affiliates in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia we warmly invite you to visit Adelaide Australia for this event at a special time in the Australian Year 2000 calendar. Share your experiences, be inspired by your colleagues, and meet others from the world-wide community of open and distance education.

We look forward to seeing you at "Distance education: an open question?", 11 - 13 September 2000. Adelaide is situated between hills and coastline and is renowned for its wine, food and festivals.

Ingrid Day
Chairperson
Organising Committee

A major conference entitled Agenda for the Future will be held in Adelaide on 8 & 9 September. The conference is co-hosted by Adult Learning Australia and UNESCO, and will examine the future of lifelong learning in Australia.
