The international and national contexts of strategic planning in Australia; the place of strategic planning in the formulation and implementation of national and local policy; the nature, scope and process of strategic management; strategy analysis and direction setting including the formulation of mission statements, visions and strategic objectives; analysing the external environment; evaluating and choosing strategic alternatives; strategy implementation; assessing strategic performance; developing a strategic plan; the role and value of risk assessment and risk management in strategic planning for the environment; the evaluation and critique of strategic plans relating to the Australian environment; the development of a strategic plan.
