Analysing the question

To analyse any question effectively you need to consider the various parts that make up the
question.

What are the
task words for your question?

What are the information words, ie the topics/issues you need to identify and discuss?

What are the limits of this question?

Sometimes the assignment is in the form of a question. For example:

What has had the greater impact on society - the invention of the printer or the invention of the computer?

You may find it helpful to convert the question into a statement to identify the implied  task word.
