This sub-major is not available for new students from 2007 - only available to continuing students who enrolled in this sub-major before 2007.
The Investigative Research Techniques sub-major provides students with the skills and background knowledge to locate and retrieve information from a variety of online and hardcopy sources, create databases, apply ethical considerations to copyright, privacy, and cultural, social and political issues, consider the impact of technology on newsgathering and the media, and identify and reach target audiences.
The 27 unit sub-major in Investigative Research Techniques is available with any of the Professional Majors in the Bachelor of Arts, and other Professional Majors across the University, with the exception of the Journalism major. It may also be taken as a minor (18 units).
It is assumed that students undertaking these courses have sound writing and computing skills.

- Students must complete at least two Level 3 courses
