This suite of courses is intended to give students studying a program outside of the field of education an insight into the dominant issues in early childhood education and care, as well as an overview of broader educational issues. The four early childhood courses (EDUC 1014 Developing a Play Curriculum, EDUC 1065 Understanding Child Development, EDUC 1042 Focus on Children, EDUC 1016 Children’s Social-Emotional Development ) form a cohesive sequence dealing with play and child development, key features of any early childhood program. The four education studies courses (EDUC 1063 Language and Multiliteracies, EDUC 4169 Social Contexts of Education, EDUC 4160 Ethics, Education and Social Enquiry, EDUC 4163 Professional Community, Identity and Social Justice) will provide students with generalist knowledge in education.
