International Studies develop students’ knowledge and capacity for cross-cultural comparisons, particularly of Asia, Australia, and Europe, and critical analysis of international relations, including the key players in the global system (China, the European Union, Japan, Russia and the United States) and the changing international agenda (including conflict resolution, defence, development, ecological sustainability, globalisation, human rights, regional integration, trade and global order).

Notes
- Students may take these International Studies courses as electives, a minor of 4 courses, a sub-major of 6 or a major of 8 courses. In a minor, sub-major or major, no more than 2 courses may be at level 1.
- None of these courses are compulsory for students taking a minor, sub-major or major in International Studies.
- Students undertaking the professional major in International Relations may not include Introduction to International Relations or Global Societies in a sequence of International Studies courses, because they are required for the professional major. Students taking a minor, sub-major or major in International Studies who are not required to complete the professional major in International Relations may include courses from the professional major in International Relations in an International Studies sequence. They are: POLI 1015 Understanding World Politics, POLI 1010 Introduction to International Relations, POLI 1014 Global Societies, POLI 2020 Globalisation and Regionalism, POLI 2011 World Order: Theoretical Interrogations, POLI 2022 Islam and World Politics; POLI 3012 Contemporary International Political Economy, POLI 3011 Global Security and Sustainability.
- Students who have completed all or part of one or more years of previously approved programs shall compete the remaining portion of their studies in accordance with this program.
- All courses are available as BUGE courses (prerequisites will be waived).
- Not all courses are available every year.
