Local and global environmental studies introduces students to environmental issues through an integrated approach to science and environment. It is designed to encourage personal development in understanding of and participation in environmental issues; promote the development of skills in environmental observation, monitoring and data analysis, communication with the public and government and practical action to resolve issues; introduce the notions of environmental sustainability, diversity and quality of living for all species; provide a starting point for the pursuit of personal interests in areas of environmental concern; encourage the development of a rich conceptual understanding of the various world systems and an overview of the past and future of planet earth and beyond; enable students to explore a variety of world views on environmental matters, the history of Western science and the lives and works of significant contributors to sustainability.

Notes
There are no prerequisites for any of the courses. As students progress through the courses they will be expected to show in their assignments, an increasing understanding of the integrated nature of the Local and Global Environments issues studied in previous and current courses. This will be clearly stipulated in the assessment contracts for each course. Courses taken as Broadening Undergraduate Education courses will be considered as Level 1.
