The Communication and Media Management sub-major develops understanding of media management practice in respect to print, broadcast and online media, communication within organisations, and print-based journalism practice.
The 27 unit sub-major in Communication and Media Management is available with a variety of Professional Majors across the University, excluding the Bachelor of Arts (Communication and Media Management). The sub-major consists of 6 x 4.5 unit compulsory core courses.
The 18 unit minor in Communication and Media Management introduces students to media management by considering the production and consumption of print, broadcast and online media. The minor requires the completion of 4 x 4.5 unit core courses from the list below.

Bachelor of Public Relations students may not enrol in COMM 1055 Public Relations 1 CMM or COMM 1056 Introduction to Public Relations as part of their Sub-major. Instead, they must choose INFT 1007 Desktop Publishing: Layout and Design or COMM 1051 Professional and Technical Writing or PERF 1001 Effective Communication.

With approval from the Program Director, students may choose to study COMM 1056 Introduction to Public Relations in place of COMM 1055 Public Relations 1 CMM.

Students may enrol in LIBR 1008 Information Skills instead of COMM 1043 Issues in Publication and Design subject to course availability.

Domestic students may enrol in COMM 3023 International Media Communications instead of INFT 1014 Digital Media Techniques subject to course availability. International students may choose between INFT 1007 Desktop Publishing: Layout and Design or PERF 1001 Effective Communication instead of INFT 1014 Digital Media Techniques.

Bachelor of Journalism and Bachelor of Journalism, Bachelor of International Studies students may not enrol in COMM 2011 Reporting for the Media. Instead they must choose INFT 1007 Desktop Publishing: Layout and Design or COMM 1051 Professional and Technical Writing or PERF 1001 Effective Communication or COMM 2050 Music, Sound & Cultural Policy (please check availability of this course, not offered every year).

Bachelor of Journalism and Bachelor of Journalism, Bachelor of International Studies students may not enrol in COMM 3007 Creative and Feature Writing for the Media. Instead they must choose COMM 3055 Communicating Science or COMM 2040 Consuming Media: Communication Industries and their Audiences.

Students must complete all core courses, except in the aforementioned instances, or where students have already completed a core course as part of their professional major or sub-major. In these instances, students may select a replacement course from the options list.

Bachelor of Journalism and Bachelor of Journalism, Bachelor of Arts (International Studies) and Bachelor of Public Relations students may not enrol in COMM 3005 Industry Internship. All other students must negotiate enrolment in this course with the Course Coordinator.
