If your purpose in noting from your text is to gain background information on a particular topic, you may find it helpful to ask some of the 'w' questions (what? who? when? how? where? why?) in relation to the topic. Find the answers to these questions in your text and make a note of them.
You may find it useful to use the structure of your text to help you sort out the ideas it contains. Note as much detail as is appropriate for your purpose and use whatever form of notes will be most meaningful and helpful for you.
