When you are reading in a new subject area, you may find it useful to make a list of the new words you come across that are used within that field. Such a list is sometimes referred to as a Glossary and some text books contain a glossary of specialist words used in the text.
You may find it even more helpful to define those new words, compiling your own specialist dictionary or glossary. A good approach is to note both the text's definition of the terms and your own understanding of what the words mean. A standard specialist dictionary, which you should find in the Reference section of the library may be useful in compiling your own glossary.
