Instead of making your own separate set of notes, another possibility is to write on or otherwise mark your text. This saves time, but involves a lower level of active participation on your part and so is a less effective learning strategy. It is also only appropriate if the text is yours and does not belong to someone else or to a library.
Possible ways of marking the text include:
