A pictorial representation may be an effective way of making notes. This is fairly obvious for material which describes, say aspects of the human body or some principle of design. However you may also find it helpful to represent other kinds of texts in pictorial form to summarise key ideas and the relationships between them. You may choose some visual metaphor for the ideas or use boxes and arrows to show relationships.
Represent the ideas in your text in some pictorial form, such as the following:
