Assignment 3—Audiotaped Health Assessment Interview (15 min) and Written Critique (1000 words)

Audiotaped Health Assessment Interview

The health assessment interview is obtained by interviewing a person over 60 years of age about their health. The interview should last approximately 15 minutes and must be recorded on an audiotape -please do not use a micro-cassette tape - or videotape.  The tape is to be submitted as part of this assignment.

Note:  Written consent must be obtained and included with the written paper (see form in Appendix 1).

Written Critique  (1000 words)   

The written aspect of this assignment must include information about the interviewee and their health status, as well as your reflections on the interview process and assessment of your skills as an interviewer. 

·         Introduction: a clear statement about the focus of the interview, which is to develop communication and interviewing skills. (50 words)

·         Details of the interviewee: a brief description of the interviewee (physical and psycho-social details); and their current or previous occupation. (150 words)

·         Interviewee’s health status: a description of the interviewee’s health status and a discussion of activities, both positive and negative, impacting on their health.  Focus on the person NOT any illness or health problem they may have. (300 words)

·         Personal reflection:  A discussion of your feelings about interviewing an older person.  Positive or negative aspects of the interview; facets of the interview which had most impact on you.  Any unexpected events or reactions.  any other aspects of the interview upon which you wish to reflect. (400 words)

·         Conclusion:  Comment on the value of the interview for you personally, and as an exercise for students of nursing. (100 words)

·         Reference List: Referencing of the paper should occur where appropriate.

·         Appendices: Consent Form and tape.
