First six weeks in the Division of Business
Study International Business at the School of Commerce
Aim
The international business stream of the Bachelor of Business provides a professional level of education for students to acquire business knowledge and skills in a broad range of disciplines necessary to conduct business in an international environment.
Entry requirements
Applicants are required to have:
-
Qualified for the SACE; and
-
Recorded achievement in five SACE subjects taken at Stage 2 level; and
-
Included at least four Stage 2 subjects which are approved Higher Education Selection Subjects (HESS);
- Obtained a competitive TER.
Alternatively, the minimum educational requirements may be met by those who have:

Completed the equivalent secondary education qualifications as required for university entry under SACE;
-
Completed or partly completed a recognised higher education program at a recognised higher education institution;
-
Completed at least four Open Universities Australia (OUA) courses at the appropriate level;
-
Completed a recognised diploma or advanced diploma from TAFE;
-
Completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma;
-
Completed the University Foundation Studies program with a competitive GPA;
-
Qualified for Special Entry.
Minimum English language entry requirements: coursework programs
The minimum English language entry requirements for international students who speak English as a foreign language are detailed below. It should be noted that some programs may specify higher English language entry requirements. These will be indicated in relevant program documentation.
Applicants are required to meet at least one of the English language entry requirements listed. Possession of one or more of these qualifications, in addition to the academic entry requirements does not, in itself, guarantee a place at the University of South Australia. Applications are considered on an individual basis and selection is competitive.
Where previous study/work experience was conducted in English, the application must be accompanied by certified documentation from the educational institution/employer certifying that the language of instruction/employment was English.

Note 1: Results from IELTS and TOEFL are valid for two years.
Note 2: The University, through UniSA International, maintains a list of countries where English is commonly used and which would satisfy this criteria. This may include particular educational institutions within a given non-English speaking country where English is the language of instruction.
Content/structure
The program requires completion of courses totalling 108 units with a minimum of four courses at level three. The structure is flexible, drawing on the disciplines of economics, international finance and strategy while permitting students to select courses from other fields, including languages, which suit their occupational aspirations and capabilities. Students will have the opportunity to take 18 units (or one half year) of study at an overseas university.
Honours
Honours in Business may be undertaken by students who complete an International Business professional major with a credit or higher grade point average
Fee information
Fees for Domestic students: Commonwealth SupportedFees for Commonwealth Supported Students are calculated at the course level. Click on individual courses in the schedule below to determine total program fees.
Fees for International students: $AU 18,880 per 1.0 EFTSL for students commencing in 2010.
Fees are calculated on a per Unit basis with 1.0 EFTSL = 36 Units.
Fees for International students are determined one year in advance and are subject to variation.

Rules
This program comprises:
-
a Division Core of seven courses
-
a major sequence of eight courses specific to the program;
-
four electives to be chosen from within the Division of Business, of which at least one must be a level 3 course from the same program area, unless approval is given by the Program Director for electives to be chosen from another Division. One may be selected from any course offered by the university, however it's suggested that students take POLI 1010 (Introduction to International Relations);
-
and either an overseas study option consisting of 18 units of approved study in business, international studies or languages at an overseas university; or Managing Communication in Business and an additional three electives chosen from within the Division of Business, unless approval is given by the Program Director for the electives to be chosen from another Division.

3.From SP5, 2009: Students must select a level 3 elective, in their final year, from another discipline area in Business. Students must choose from one of the following:
International Marketing, or
International and Comparative Human Resource Management, or
A level 3 elective from another discipline area offered within the Division of Business in consultation with the Program Director.
Students will be required to use their second and/or third year electives to choose supporting prerequisites applicable to the level 3 courses they elect.
4.Students may choose either an elective chosen from inside the Division of Business (unless approval is given otherwise by the Program Director) or International Markets, Institutions and Policy
5.Students may elect to undertake Applied Business Econometrics in second year study period 5 immediately following Forecasting and Business Analysis
6.Students who choose not to study overseas for one semester will study Managing Communication in Business plus three elective courses offered by the Division of Business (unless approval is given otherwise by the Program Director).
7.Students from a non-English speaking background, who have an IELTS score less than 7 will be required to enrol in a 2-hour tutorial for COMM 1054 Managing Communication in Business.
8.Students who have studied either course in the following list, will be deemed to have completed the core course requirement only for the purposes of: transition, program transfer, double degrees and transnational programs where a limited range of courses may be available; and granting of credit for related diploma programs such as SAIBT and Eynesbury.
