Aim

The program is designed for those who are planning for research careers in one or more capacities - conducting funded research projects, leading a team of researchers, preparing research grant applications, supervising students undertaking higher degrees by research, providing organisational support for funded research projects, and those contributing to broader strategic and policy initiatives relating to research and particularly its commercialisation.

Entry requirements

Entry into the program can be either:

As a currently enrolled UniSA domestic HDR student. These students are eligible to apply for the CTS scholarship, which covers both tuition fees and a living allowance where applicable.

As a fee paying student. Entry requires completion at a recognised tertiary institution of a degree at bachelor level with first or second class honours, or a postgraduate diploma in a relevant discipline. A minimum of four years of full-time equivalent study is required. International students may be limited to undertaking one course at a time.

Selection for CTS places and scholarships is competitive, based on academic merit and the probability of pursuing a career that will use the skills, knowledge and experience gained during CTS training.

Current enrolment in a Higher Degree by Research is necessary for participation in the DEST Commonwealth Training Scheme.

Currently enrolled as an HDR student at one of the ATN universities.These students are entitled to a tuition scholarship.

International students enrolling through UniSA, for which a course fee is payable, must meet the English language entry requirements.

Minimum English language entry requirements: coursework programs

The minimum English language entry requirements for international students who speak English as a foreign language are detailed below. It should be noted that some programs may specify higher English language entry requirements. These will be indicated in relevant program documentation.

Applicants are required to meet at least one of the English language entry requirements listed. Possession of one or more of these qualifications, in addition to the academic entry requirements does not, in itself, guarantee a place at the University of South Australia. Applications are considered on an individual basis and selection is competitive.

Where previous study/work experience was conducted in English, the application must be accompanied by certified documentation from the educational institution/employer certifying that the language of instruction/employment was English.

Other Qualifications

·Successful completion of a tertiary qualification at diploma level or above completed in Australia within the last two years; or

·Successful completion of at least two years of tertiary study at diploma level or above conducted and completed in English within the last five years in a country in which English is commonly used, as determined by the University (see Note 2). Where the study in English was more than five years ago, this requirement may be satisfied by subsequent and recent work experience of at least two years duration in a setting where English is the language of business subject to satisfactory evidence as determined by the University.

Note 1: Results from IELTS and TOEFL are valid for two years.

Note 2: The University, through UniSA International, maintains a list of countries where English is commonly used and which would satisfy this criteria. This may include particular educational institutions within a given non-English speaking country where English is the language of instruction.

The program consists of four 4.5 unit courses. All courses will be offered on-line.

Fees for Fee Paying Postgraduate students: $AU 8,800 per 0.5 EFTSL for students commencing in 2009.
Fees are calculated on a per Unit basis with 1.0 EFTSL = 36 Units.

Rules

  1. Students enrolled at UniSA will have password access to the course information at the collaborating universities.
  2. Knowledge Transfer and Commercialisation is a compulsory course.
  3. Students must complete three of the remaining four courses.

Notes

  1. The course is one semester full-time equivalent study.

  2. All units are offered online only. Students will require regular and reliable internet access.

  3. Part-time study is only available with the prior approval of the Program Director.

  4. Prospective students should consult with the School of Management to ascertain the availability and duration of Commercialisation Training Scheme (CTS) places.

  5. Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
