Aim

The Graduate Diploma in Management Research (GMR) program has been designed to advance the professional development of senior practicing managers and professionals in the business arena by extending their management knowledge and equipping them with broad research skills, enabling them to undertake research in their chosen fields and prepare them for research at the doctoral level.

Entry requirements

Applicants seeking admission to the GMR program shall normally hold:

All applicants are required to submit a detailed curriculum vitae outlining their managerial/executive or teaching/research experience.

Applicants seeking entry with substantial (no less than five years) professional experience at executive/management level are required to submit as part of their admission application a 500 word outline of a proposed research topic in the field of business and/or management.

Applicants seeking entry with substantial (no less than two years full time) experience in a teaching or research position, in the discipline area in which the applicant intends to conduct their research, within an approved university or equivalent higher education institution are required to submit as part of their admission application submission a 2000 word outline of a proposed research topic in the field of business and/or management which reflects their current knowledge and understanding of their discipline area as an academic.

Minimum English language entry requirements: coursework programs

The minimum English language entry requirements for international students who speak English as a foreign language are detailed below. It should be noted that some programs may specify higher English language entry requirements. These will be indicated in relevant program documentation.

Applicants are required to meet at least one of the English language entry requirements listed. Possession of one or more of these qualifications, in addition to the academic entry requirements does not, in itself, guarantee a place at the University of South Australia. Applications are considered on an individual basis and selection is competitive.

Where previous study/work experience was conducted in English, the application must be accompanied by certified documentation from the educational institution/employer certifying that the language of instruction/employment was English.

Content/structure

The GMR is a coursework program comprising 5 courses, a total of 36 units, to be completed over a twelve-month period consisting of 2 x 6 month study periods. The structure is shown in the following table. The Graduate Certificate is nested within the GMR and is an exit award for students. It requires successful completion of the first three courses, a total of 18 units.

Graduates who find that their doctoral studies would be better suited to a contribution to practice rather than theory may choose to change to the Doctor of Business Administration program on completion of the GMR.

Graduates of this program who are accepted into the PhD (DPBU, OPBU) program will have completed their literature review, prepared and defended their research proposal and could therefore be in the position to complete PhD (DPBU, OPBU) requirements in a minimum of 2 years full-time study.
