Aim

The program is designed to provide students with a choice a professionally recognised qualification in Library and Information Management and will prepare students for careers as technically skilled librarians as well as knowledge and information officers at a postgraduate level.

Entry requirements

Applicants should normally hold a Bachelors degree or equivalent qualification; or applicants who have completed the Graduate Diploma in Library Information Management or equivalent qualification from a recognised higher education institution may also be eligible for entry.

For international applicants for whom English is a second language, the minimum English language requirements are:

International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic): Minimum score of 6.0 in Reading and Writing subscores and minimum overall score of 6.5 obtained within the last two years or corresponding results from an equivalent test such as TOEFL or the appropriate Academic English language level delivered at CELUSA; or

Content/structure

The program requires the completion of 54 units comprising 36 units from the Graduate Diploma and either: (a) 18 units of electives provided or, (b) 18 units consisting of either the ICT Masters Project 1 and 2, or the Masters Computing Minor Thesis 1 and 2.

Professional Recognition

This program is recognised by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Students must fulfil a fieldwork placement in the library and information sector for a period of 4 weeks or equivalent.

Fees for Domestic students: Commonwealth Supported
Fees for Commonwealth Supported Students are calculated at the course level. Click on individual courses in the schedule below to determine total program fees.

Fees for International students: $AU 21,250 per 1.0 EFTSL for students commencing in 2011.
Fees are calculated on a per Unit basis with 1.0 EFTSL = 36 Units.
Fees for International students are determined one year in advance and are subject to variation.

Notes

  1. The program requires the completion of 54 units comprising 36 units from the graduate diploma and either: (a) 18 units of electives provided or, (b) 18 units consisting of either the ICT Masters Project 1 and 2, or the Masters Computing Minor Thesis 1 and 2.
  2. Students who undertake CIS Research Methods (INFT 4017) will have the choice of the ICT Masters Project 1 (INFT 5023) and 2 (INFT 5024); or the Masters Computing Minor Thesis 1 (COMP 5003) and 2 (COMP 5003) when enrolling in the Master of Library and Information Management.
  3. Students who elect to undertake the Teacher Librarianship qualification courses are required by Department of Education and Children's Services (DECS) to enrol in (LIBR 5013) Reading for Leisure and Learning and (INFS 5067) Information Management Project and undertake the project within a School Library. If a student intends on undertaking a Minor Thesis or a Project the student will be required to undertake CIS Research Methods (INFT 4017) in lieu of Information Governance (INFS 5075).
  4. Not all electives will necessarily be available in any one calendar year and the decision on whether or not to offer a particular elective will depend on student demand.
  5. Students who have completed the Graduate Diploma in Library and Information Management or equivalent will receive credit, subject to approval of the Program Director.
