Aim

The program is designed to provide an education and professional level qualification in the fields of quantity surveying, construction management, building technology, building structures, building surveying and housing studies.

For international applicants for whom English is a second language, the minimum English language requirements are:

International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic): Obtain a minimum overall score of 6.0 obtained within the last two years or corresponding results from an equivalent test such as TOEFL or the appropriate Academic English language level delivered at CELUSA; or

Successful completion of a secondary qualification in Australia within the last two years; or
Successful completion of at least one year of tertiary study in Australia within the last two years; or
Successful completion of one year of secondary or tertiary study conducted and completed in English within the last two years in a country in which:

Content/structure

The Bachelor of Construction Management and Economics requires the completion of courses totalling 144 units. The program is structured to provide a common core with options in the three areas of Quantity Surveying, Construction Management and Building Surveying.

Professional Recognition

This program is recognised as meeting the educational requirements for corporate membership of the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, for graduates who have completed the Quantity Surveying specialisation.

Honours

The degree may be awarded with honours for meritorious performance in the program.

Fee information

Fees for Domestic students: Commonwealth Supported

Fees for International students: $AU 19,750 per 1.0 EFTSL for students commencing in 2010.
Fees are calculated on a per Unit basis with 1.0 EFTSL = 36 Units.
Fees for International students are determined one year in advance and are subject to variation.

Notes

  1. Credit is granted for approved studies completed in an educational institution or for approved work undertaken or performed in a particular area relevant to the course and within a period which may be specified for that course. Maximum credit allowed is three quarters of the total points for the course.
  2. In Study Period 5 of third year, students may elect to enrol in four specified courses or undertake the Professional Practice Project. The Professional Practice Project provides students with the opportunity to develop their skills in a practical industry setting and to develop links with potential future employers.
  3. Students who have a credit level or better average prior to entry to the final year of the program may take the Honours stream of final year in accordance with University Policy.
  4. Only one elective option may be taken in the final year.
  5. Building Research Project. The schedule contains a statement of the hours of formal attendance. A total student effort of 300 hours is required over the year.
  6. The Professional Practice Project (BUIL 3002) is normally undertaken in SP 5. However, students who wish to extend their industry experience and work for a whole year, whilst undertaking other course work are able to enrol in the course in SP 2. Please consult your Program Director if you are considering this.
  7. The Building Research Project is a year-long research project made up of two courses - Building Research Project 1 (BUIL 4023) and Building Research Project 2 (BUIL 4024) or Building Research Project 1 (Hons) (BUIL 4001) and Building Research Project 2 (Hons) (BUIL 4002). Students enrol in these courses over two study periods - Study Period 2 and Study Period 5. Students who commence their research project should enrol in Building Research Project 1 or Building Research Project 1(Honours), regardless of whether they commence in February (SP2) or July (SP 5). The Building Research Project 1 and Building Research Project 1(Hons) are prerequisites for the courses Building Research Project 2 and Building Research Project 2(Hons) respectively. Please consult your Course Coordinator or your Program Director if in doubt.
