Aim

The program is designed to produce graduates who will have the knowledge, skills and attitudes to contribute effectively to the ever-changing health industry. The program aims to produce graduates who have a foundation in basic health science with a major and minor area of study to be determined after the first year, and who can employ inter-disciplinary knowledge and skills to operate effectively within the broader health care sector.

In addition, international students who speak English as a foreign language must have obtained one of the following standards within the last two years prior to admission:

Note 1:  Results from IELTS and TOEFL are valid for two years.

Note 2:  The University, through UniSA International, maintains a list of countries where English is commonly used and which would satisfy this criterion. This may include particular educational institutions within a given non-English speaking country where English is the language of instruction.

Content/structure

The program includes courses in biological and social sciences, health related concepts and practice, health psychology, health promotion and management, health research and statistics. The degree requires the completion of courses comprising 108 units.

Honours

Students obtaining a credit level average or higher may be accepted into an Honours program in accordance with the current policy, and then proceed to postgraduate research degrees.

Rules

  1. A major (36 units) or two minors (18 units each) must be completed from the following University majors or minors:   Administrative Management, Adult and Community Education Studies, Commerce, Counselling and Interpersonal Skills, Human Resource Management, Marketing, Management of Information Technology, and Psychology, or subject to the approval of the Program Director, from other courses related to the field of Health Science including those which may extend the student's major area of study.
  2. Maximum credit allowed - normally two-thirds of the total unit value of the program.
