Police Checks
Applicants are advised that a successful Criminal History Screening Clearance (Police Check) is required for all students prior to their undertaking any professional experience/practicum placement that involves contact with minors (under 18 years of age). Information on the procedure to be followed for obtaining clearance will be provided with the letter of offer or may be viewed at the School of Education criminal history screening web page. These placements form a compulsory part of the program. A successful clearance may also be required for other courses, eg to enter any school, pre-school or childcare centre for any reason, including on placement, observation or visits, unless the students are already registered teachers.

Aim
The double degree Bachelor of Applied Science (Human Movement and Health Studies), Bachelor of Education (Middle and Secondary) aims to provide a foundation of interdisciplinary studies in human movement and health that includes a major focus in health and physical education. This is combined with specific studies in education, curriculum and reflective practice. The intent of the double degree program is to prepare Health and Physical educators who are skilled, committed and flexible professionals with the knowledge and pedagogical capacities to promote effective and inclusive learning in variety of education settings including middle and secondary schools and broader community contexts.
Entry requirements
To be eligible for entry to the double degree, students are required to have:
- Qualified for the SACE;
- Recorded achievement in five SACE subjects taken at Stage 2 level;
- Included at least four Stage 2 subjects that are approved Higher Education Selection Subjects (HESS G);
- Obtained an achievement score of 10 or better;
- Obtained the required TER.
Alternatively, applicants may apply for entry if they have:
- Completed the equivalent secondary educational qualifications as required for university entry under SACE;
- Completed, or partly completed, a recognised higher education program at a recognised higher education institution;
- Completed at least four Open Universities Australia courses at the appropriate level;
- Completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma;
- Qualified for Special/Mature Age Entry;
- completed the Health Sciences stream of the UniSA Foundation Studies program.
English language entry requirements
In addition, International students who speak English as a foreign language must satisfy the following:
International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic): Overall score of 6.5 obtained within the last two years or corresponding results from an equivalent test such as TOEFL or the appropriate Academic English language level delivered at CELUSA;
OR
Successful completion of a secondary qualification in Australia within the last two years;
OR
Successful completion of at least one year of tertiary study in Australia within the last two years;
OR
Successful completion of one year of secondary or tertiary study conducted and completed in English within the last two years in a country in which English is an official language as determined by the University.
Content/structure
The program is equivalent to four years of full-time study, that is 144 units. The program includes courses in Human Movement and Health Studies, Health and Physical Education, core education courses, reflective practice courses and learning area courses.
The program offer flexibility in its structure to allow for students to complete the Double Degree in one learning area (Health and Physical Education) or in two learning areas (Health and Physical Education; and Science).
Professional Recognition
Graduates will meet the academic requirement for registration as teachers in South Australia. However, applicants should note that there are other criteria determining eligibility for registration by the Teachers Registration Board of South Australia, which are outlined in the Teachers Registration and Standards Act 2004 and Teachers Registration and Standards. Regulations 2005.
Honours
Students completing the double degree program are eligible to be considered for entry into Honours studies in Human Movement and Health Studies.The Honours program is an additional year.
Fee information
Fees for Domestic students: Commonwealth SupportedFees for Commonwealth Supported Students are calculated at the course level. Click on individual courses in the schedule below to determine total program fees.
Fees for International students: $AU 18,375 per 1.0 EFTSL for students commencing in 2010.
Fees are calculated on a per Unit basis with 1.0 EFTSL = 36 Units.
Fees for International students are determined one year in advance and are subject to variation.

Rules
- Police Checks: All students in the Division of Health Sciences who undertake field or clinical placements, or participate in University clinics as part of their program, must have had a police clearance prior to the commencement of any placement or clinic activity.
- Students in the Double Degree program may transfer into the Bachelor of Applied Science (Human Movement and Health Studies) program.
Notes
- EDUC 4045 Reflective Practice 1 includes 10 days of full time activities in education settings.
- EDUC 4043 Reflective Practice 2 includes 25 days of full time practicum in education setting during Weeks 5 to 8.
- EDUC 4055 Reflective Practice 3 includes 30 days of full time practicum in education setting during Weeks 9 to 14
- The prerequisites for the course Reflective Practice 2 are Reflective Practice 1 and 9 units of learning area courses. The prerequisites for Reflective Practice 3 are Reflective Practice 2 and 18 units of learning area courses.
- The Health and Physical Education learning courses (H&PE 1-4) includes the professional option. In some cases, students may complete all courses from the Health and Physical Education learning area. This will enable students to develop an interest area within Health and Physical Education such as Outdoor Education, Dance, Health, Nutrition, etc.
