Aim

The aim of this program is to develop basic knowledge and skills in the analysis of Human Factors issues and the development of Safety Management Systems.

Entry requirements

For entry into the Graduate Certificate in Human Factors and Safety Management Systems, applicants will normally have completed an undergraduate degree in psychology, engineering, safety or management discipline, or equivalent. Alternatively, applicants who have at least four years relevant professional experience will be determined to have the equivalent of an undergraduate degree.

Content/structure

Human Factors is a multi-disciplinary applied science that integrates the fields of psychology, engineering, ergonomics, management and industrial design. Human Factors is primarily concerned with the interaction between humans and the socio-technical systems with which they work. The program comprises three compulsory courses and one elective course. Each course is worth 4.5 units, and a total of 18 units are required to complete the program.

Fees for International students: $AU 9,250 per 0.5 EFTSL for students commencing in 2010.
Fees are calculated on a per Unit basis with 1.0 EFTSL = 36 Units.
Fees for International students are determined one year in advance and are subject to variation.

  1. The program requires the equivalent of 0.5 full-time year of study, but is usually taken on a part-time basis.
  2. Any postgraduate courses offered within the University of South Australia or from other universities may be taken as elective courses with the permission of the Program Director. Some elective courses are offered subject to student demand and staff availability, and some electives may only be offered by internal study mode. Please contact the Program Director for a current list of recommended and available electives.
  3. Not all courses may be offered every year.
  4. The courses BEHL 5050 Human Factors: Principles and Applications, BEHL 5051 Safety Management Systems will include a non-compulsory short on-campus workshop for students who wish to attend.
