Aim

The aim of this program is to produce graduates who will be eligible via the Australian Association of Exercise and Sport Science (AAESS) to be accredited as an Exercise Physiologist and thereby prescribe, deliver and manage evidence based exercise programs for those with chronic and complex conditions.

A completed Bachelor of Applied Science (Human Movement and Health Studies) or equivalent degree with a GPA greater than 5.0; AND
Full membership of AAESS as an Exercise Scientist; AND
Demonstrated completion of 140 hours of exercise prescription with 'apparently healthy' individuals using the AAESS log book; AND
Current First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification; AND
Current National Police Clearance; and Current Mandated Notification Training.

International students

In addition to the above requirements, international students who speak English as a foreign language must satisfy the following:

International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic): Overall score of 7, with minimum sub-scores of 6.0 in Reading and Writing, obtained within the last two years or corresponding results from an equivalent test such as TOEFL or the appropriate Academic English language level delivered at CELUSA;
OR

OR
Successful completion of at least two years of tertiary study at diploma level or above conducted and completed in English within the last five years in a country in which English is an official language.

Where the study in English was more than five years ago, this requirement may be satisfied by subsequent and recent work experience of at least two years duration in a setting where English is the language of business subject to satisfactory evidence as determined by the University.

Content/structure

Within the 36 unit program, there will be 27 units that will combine theory and practice within the university environment with a further 9.0 units being completed in clinical settings where the assessment, prescription and management of exercise programs will be required.  These clinical placement requirements may be conducted within UniSA's own clinical facilities and/or other organisation as approved by the UniSA.  This 9 units of clinical placement will allow students to apply and integrate the knowledge and skills gained in the academic setting and fulfil the required clinical experience (360 hrs) that is required for accreditation as an exercise physiologist.
