Aim

The program is designed to provide further educational development to improve the effectiveness and understanding of occupational health and safety management in the workplace.

Entry requirements

A relevant first degree, advanced diploma, three-year diploma or equivalent from a recognised higher education institution, together with a minimum of two years of appropriate work experience. Alternatively, applicants who have completed the Graduate Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety Management, achieving a grade of P1 or higher in all courses will be eligible for entry into the Graduate Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Management.

In addition, international students who speak English as a foreign language must have obtained one of the following standards within the last two years prior to admission:

Note 1:  Results from IELTS, University of Cambridge ESOL examinations and TOEFL are valid for two years.
Note 2:  The University, through UniSA International, maintains a list of countries where English is commonly used and which would satisfy this criterion. This may include particular educational institutions within a given non-English speaking country where English is the language of instruction.
Note 3: Where previous study/work experience was conducted in English, the application must be accompanied by certified documentation from the educational institution/employer certifying that the language of instruction/employment was English.

Content/structure

The program is taught cooperatively by the University of South Australia and the University of Adelaide. The program structure comprises 36 units, made up of 18 units compulsory courses and 18 units of elective courses. The program is offered internally and online, and is undertaken in one year of full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Fee information

Fees for Domestic students: Commonwealth Supported
Fees for Commonwealth Supported Students are calculated at the course level. Click on individual courses in the schedule below to determine total program fees.

Fees for International students: $AU 19,000 per 1.0 EFTSL for students commencing in 2011.
Fees are calculated on a per Unit basis with 1.0 EFTSL = 36 Units.
Fees for International students are determined one year in advance and are subject to variation.

Rules


  1. Students intending to undertake the Master of Occupational Health and Safety Management must undertake a Research Methods course as one of their electives.
  2. Credit will be granted to students who have successfully completed courses towards the Graduate Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety Management (ICOY).
  3. Consideration will be given to granting credit to students who have partially completed equivalent university level studies, up to a maximum of four courses.
  4. In exceptional cases, credit will be granted for up to two courses to students who have undertaken relevant study at a TAFE institution, at an equivalent grade of credit or more.

Notes

  1. Students enrol in those courses offered at the University of Adelaide through cross-institutional enrolment.
  2. The Graduate Diploma is offered on both a full-time and a part-time basis.
  3. This program is offered internally and externally.
  4. Electives are to be chosen in consultation with the Program Director and are subject to prerequisites, corequisites and timetabling.
