Police Checks
All students in the Division of Health Sciences who undertake field or clinical placements, or participate in University clinics as part of their program, must have had a police clearance prior to the commencement of any placement or clinic activity.

Aim

To provide internationally trained physiotherapists with specialised training at an advanced level in defined fields of musculoskeletal physiotherapy and to enable them to develop an advanced level of evidence based clinical practice.

Entry requirements

A recognised four year Bachelor of Physiotherapy degree plus six month internship or equivalent. A minimum of two years musculoskeletal and/or sports physiotherapy clinical experience is desirable.

English language entry requirements
In addition, International students who speak English as a foreign language must satisfy the following:

International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic): Overall score of 6.5 (with sub-scores of 6.0 in Reading and Writing) obtained within the last two years or corresponding results from an equivalent test such as TOEFL or the appropriate Academic English language level delivered at CELUSA;
OR
Successful completion of a tertiary qualification at diploma level or above completed in Australia within the last two years;
OR
Successful completion of at least two years of tertiary study at diploma level or above conducted and completed in English within the last five years in a country in which English is an official language as determined by the University.

Where the study in English was more than five years ago, this requirement may be satisfied by subsequent and recent work experience of at least two years duration in a setting where English is the language of business subject to satisfactory evidence as determined by the University.

Content/structure

The Masters program comprises 16 courses totalling 72 units. Exit with a Graduate Certificate in Physiotherapy following completion of 4 courses totalling 18 units is available.

Fee information

Fees for Domestic students: Commonwealth Supported
Fees for Commonwealth Supported Students are calculated at the course level. Click on individual courses in the schedule below to determine total program fees.

Fees for International students: $AU 20,275 per 1.0 EFTSL for students commencing in 2010.
Fees are calculated on a per Unit basis with 1.0 EFTSL = 36 Units.
Fees for International students are determined one year in advance and are subject to variation.

Rules

  1. Police Check: All students in the Division of Health Sciences who undertake field or clinical placements, or participate in University clinics as part of their program, must have had a police clearance prior to the commencement of any placement or clinic activity.
  2. Before commencing any clinical courses, students are required to be registered to practice physiotherapy in South Australia. International students are required to obtain a 'Limited Registration' from the Physiotherapists Board of South Australia. This can be organised once the Masters program has commenced.
  3. Maximum credit allowed - normally one third of the total units of the program.
  4. The program normally must be completed in four years from the time of initial enrolment.
  5. Students must hold a recognised Basic First Aid Certificate (including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) before they will be permitted to undertake clinical courses in the First Year of the program.
  6. Students must hold a recognised Senior First Aid Certificate (including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), Advanced Trauma Management, Oxygen Resuscitation Certificate, Asthma Management Certificate, with the training provided within the Second Year of the program, before they will be permitted to undertake clinical courses in Second Year.
  7. Students will be required to satisfy the standard of dress and behaviour prescribed by institutions in which clinical placements are undertaken. Failure to satisfy such requirements may prevent them satisfying the requirements for the completion of the program.
  8. Students enrolled in courses involving contact with patients in hospitals or other treatment centres may be required, before commencing this clinical placement, to undergo medical examinations as determined by the relevant hospital or health service authorities.
  9. Attendance is expected at every clinical and practical session for every course throughout the program.

Notes

  1. The program is offered on a full-time basis.
  2. The course Anatomy and Pain Science requires student participation in examination of prosected anatomical specimens. For this course students are required to wear a full-length laboratory coat and closed shoes.
  3. The program requires participation in laboratory classes where manual skills and topics such as surface anatomy are presented. Essential learning strategies require all students to disrobe appropriately to act as models for their peer group in laboratory classes.
  4. This program requires a high level of physical fitness.
  5. This is a fee recovery program.
  6. Students who are unable to complete the Masters program may exit with a Graduate Certificate in Physiotherapy, providing the following four courses totalling 18 units of study have been completed successfully:
