This is a combined Higher Education / VET program. Aim

This program aims to provide a broad and fundamental understanding of the theory and practice of computing and information technology and prepares graduates for a professional career in the computer, the software development and information services industry.

Content/structure

The program consists of 54 units of courses in information technology and 12 TAFE courses (54 units). A total of 108 units is required to complete the program.

Three of the UniSA courses (Information Systems Professional Practice, Systems Analysis, Design and Project Management, and ICT Project) are core courses and are shown in the schedule below.  The other six UniSA courses are taken from an IT Sub-Major selected by the student. A student will select one of the IT Sub-Majors shown below the schedule.  

The 12 TAFE courses (indicated in the schedule below as TAFE Course 1 to TAFE Course 12) are made up of TAFE subjects and each TAFE subject is made up of a varying number of TAFE competencies. All TAFE subjects are taken at the TAFESA City Campus, 120 Currie Street, Adelaide.

Professional Recognition

This program is professionally accredited by the Australian Computer Society.

Honours

Graduates of this program who have achieved at least a credit level grade point average can enter the one year honours program Bachelor of Information Technology (Honours).

Notes

  1. All units of competency for TAFE programming subjects must be done using the Java programming language.
  2. A student must take one of the IT Sub-Majors. Each sub-major consists of 6 UniSA courses (27 units) as shown in the schedule above. If a student wishes to make any variation to a sub-major, written permission must be obtained from the Program Director.
