Aim
The program aims to provide a broad and fundamental understanding of the theory and practice of the disciplines of engineering and business management. It prepares graduates for careers in many sectors of the economy including accounting, computing, electronics and communications, networking communications, transport, manufacturing and defence industries and in government agencies with relevant skills in business management. It also provides a professional level of education for potential and current managers.
Entry requirements
Applicants are required to have one of the following qualifications:

Qualified for the SACE; and
-
Recorded achievement in five SACE subjects taken at Stage 2 level; and
-
Included at least four Stage 2 subjects which are approved Higher Education Selection Subjects (HESS); and
-
Obtained a competitive TER; and
-
Obtained an achievement score of a minimum of 10 in Stage 2 Mathematical Studies.
Note that:
-
A knowledge of SACE Stage 2 Physics will be assumed.
Alternatively, the minimum educational requirements may be met by those who have fulfilled prerequisite requirements and:
-
Completed the equivalent secondary education qualifications as required for university entry under SACE;
-
Completed or partly completed a recognised higher education program at a recognised higher education institution;
-
Completed at least four Open Universities Australia (OUA) courses at the appropriate level;
-
Completed an award from TAFE or from another registered training organisation at AQF Certificate IV or above;
-
Completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma;
-
Qualified for Special Entry;
Or -
Completed University Foundation Studies program, Applied Science and Engineering stream;
-
Completed the Associate Degree in Engineering program at the University of South Australia.
For international applicants for whom English is a second language, the minimum English language requirements are:
International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic): Minimum score of 6.0 in Reading and Writing subscores and minimum overall score of 6.0 obtained within the last two years or corresponding results from an equivalent test such as TOEFL or the appropriate Academic English language level delivered at CELUSA; or
- Successful completion of a secondary qualification in Australia within the last two years; or
- Successful completion of at least one year of tertiary study in Australia within the last two years; or
- Successful completion of one year of secondary or tertiary study conducted and completed in English within the last two years in a country in which English is commonly used, as determined by the University.
Content/structure
The program requires 180 units of study which consist of 117 units for the engineering degree and 63 units for the management degree. Within the program, there is a professional engineering practice stream of 5 courses (22.5 units), including the project, which address the area of management within the engineering context.
The courses in the program are structured as follows:

22 engineering courses including, mathematics, science, computing and technical engineering subjects;

5 engineering courses (including project) that have a strong focus on management in the engineering context;
- 13 generic management courses;
Professional Recognition
This program is professionally accredited by Engineers Australia and is designed to meet the requirements for graduate membership of Engineers Australia and comparable international institutions such as the Institution of Civil Engineers (UK).
Honours
Students achieving a credit level average at the end of fourth year will be allowed to enrol in the honours courses in Engineering in their final year. Successful completion of the program and the honours project courses may lead to the award of the Bachelor of Engineering with Honours. Honours in Management is available as a one year full-time program on completion of the ordinary degree with meritorious performance.

Notes
- Provided that course prerequisites are still met, and with the approval of the Program Director, students in the fourth and fifth years of their programs may enrol in courses from either of those years of the program. In making these choices, students should ensure that there are no adverse timetable implications.
- It is a requirement of Engineers Australia that students complete a minimum period of 12 weeks of industrial experience in a relevant industry prior to graduation. Assessment in the course Industrial Experience will remain incomplete until the student submits a written report and receives a pass.
- If required for overseas professional accreditation purposes, students may elect to graduate with alternative nomenclature for their engineering degree, e.g. Bachelor of Engineering (Electronic Engineering).
