Aim
This program aims to prepare students for a professional career in engineering in thefield of information technology with particular emphasis on networking and communications.
Entry requirements
Applicants are required to have one of the following qualifications:
-
Qualified for the SACE; and
-
Recorded achievement in five SACE subjects taken at Stage 2 level; and
-
Included at least four Stage 2 subjects which are approved Higher Education Selection Subjects (HESS); and
-
Obtained a competitive TER; and
-
Obtained an achievement score of a minimum of 10 in Stage 2 Mathematical Studies.
Note that:

A knowledge of SACE Stage 2 Physics will be assumed.
Alternatively, the minimum educational requirements may be met by those who have fulfilled prerequisite requirements and:
-
Completed the equivalent secondary education qualifications as required for university entry under SACE;
-
Completed or partly completed a recognised higher education program at a recognised higher education institution;
-
Completed at least four Open Universities Australia (OUA) courses at the appropriate level;
-
Completed an award from TAFE or from another registered training organisation at AQF Certificate IV or above;
-
Completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma;
-
Qualified for Special Entry;
Or -
Completed University Foundation Studies program, Applied Science and Engineering stream;
-
Completed the Associate Degree in Engineering program at the University of South Australia.
For international applicants for whom English is a second language, the minimum English language requirements are:
International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic): Obtain a minimum overall score of 6.0 obtained within the last two years or corresponding results from an equivalent test such as TOEFL or the appropriate Academic English language level delivered at CELUSA; orSuccessful completion of a secondary qualification in Australia within the last two years; or
Successful completion of at least one year of tertiary study in Australia within the last two years; or
Successful completion of one year of secondary or tertiary study conducted and completed in English within the last two years in a country in which:

English is an official language; or
-
English is commonly used, as determined by the University.
Content/structure
The Bachelor of Engineering requires completion of courses totalling 144 units. This comprises a common two year foundation program of mathematics, science computing and electrical engineering principles. Each specialisation commences in the third year of study, where students concentrate on their chosen application area, as well as a set of common courses in mathematics, systems engineering, computer communications, real-time systems and control. Further specialist courses are offered in the final year. The degree inculcates professional engineering skills in a major final year group project, spanning both First Half and Second Half of the final year.

Professional Recognition
This program is professionally accredited by Engineers Australia and is designed to meet the requirements for graduate membership of Engineers Australia and comparable international institutions such as the Institution of Civil Engineers (UK).
Honours
Students achieving a credit level average at the end of third year will be allowed to enrol in the honours courses in Engineering in their final year. Successful completion of the program and the honours project courses may lead to the award of the Bachelor of Engineering with Honours.

Fee information
Fees for Domestic students: Commonwealth SupportedFees for Commonwealth Supported Students are calculated at the course level. Click on individual courses in the schedule below to determine total program fees.
Fees for International students: $AU 21,800 per 1.0 EFTSL for students commencing in 2010.
Fees are calculated on a per Unit basis with 1.0 EFTSL = 36 Units.
Fees for International students are determined one year in advance and are subject to variation.

Notes (for all streams)
- The broadening education elective is to be chosen from a list of management courses provided each year by the school and is available on the EIE School web page at www.unisa.edu.au/eie during enrolment time
- If a core course is unavailable in a particular year, students may, with the approval of the Program Director, select an alternative course from the list of technical electives.
- All students must complete a period of industrial experience in a relevant industry prior to graduation. This program requires a minimum of 12 weeks of industrial experience in a relevant industry, which would normally be obtained from the second year of the program onwards. Assessment in the course Industrial Experience will remain incomplete until the student submits a written report and receives a pass.
- The list of available technical electives is posted on the EIE School web page at www.unisa.edu.au/eie during enrolment time. Availability is contingent on sufficient enrolment.
- If required for overseas professional accreditation purposes, students may elect to graduate with alternative nomenclature, e.g. Bachelor of Engineering (Electronic Engineering).
