Aim
The program aims to prepare students for a professional career in Civil Engineering and Environmental Management with emphasis on project-based and industry focussed learning for sustainable development of environment-related infrastructure.
Entry requirements
Applicants are required to have one of the following qualifications:
Qualified for SACE; and
- Recorded achievement in five SACE subjects taken at stage 2 level; and
- Included at least four Stage 2 subjects which are approved Higher Education Selection Subjects (HESS); and
- Obtained a competitive TER;
- Obtained an achievement score of a minimum of 10 in Stage 2 Mathematical Studies.
- A knowledge of SACE Stage 2 Physics will be assumed.
Completed the equivalent secondary education qualifications as required for University entry under SACE and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
Completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma, obtaining a minimum score of 24 points and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
Completed or partly completed a recognised higher education program at a recognised higher education + institution and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
Completed at least four Open Universities Australia (OUA) courses at the appropriate level and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
Completed an award from TAFE or from another registered training organisation at AQF Certificate IV or above and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
Qualified for Special Entry and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
Completed the University Foundation Studies program.
Completed the Associate Degree in Engineering program at the University of South Australia.
For international applicants for whom English is a second language, the minimum English language requirements are:
International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic): Minimum score of 6.0 in Reading and Writing subscores and minimum overall score of 6.0 obtained within the last two years or corresponding results from an equivalent test such as TOEFL or the appropriate Academic English language level delivered at CELUSA; or
- Successful completion of a secondary qualification in Australia within the last two years; or
- Successful completion of at least one year of tertiary study in Australia within the last two years; or
- Successful completion of one year of secondary or tertiary study conducted and completed in English within the last two years in a country in which English is commonly used, as determined by the University.
Content/structure
The first two years of the program provide a broad base in engineering and science courses needed for civil engineering careers as well as providing hands on experience in areas such as concrete technology and surveying, and an introduction to the main specialisations available in civil engineering. In third year students focus in detail on the disciplines of structural, water and wastewater, geotechnical and environmental engineering - and their interaction with the environment. Fourth year provides students with the opportunity to specialise in the area of Environmental Management in a civil engineering context. Total units to complete the program are 144. It is possible to complete this program in less than four years by undertaking courses offered during study periods 1, 4 and 7. This accelerated option will be offered by the program director to students who achieve outstanding grades in the first year.
Students who successfully complete this program have the opportunity to gain credit for four courses if they successfully apply to enter the Master of Environmental Management and Sustainability (LMES), which they can then complete after graduation from the Bachelor's degree with an additional year of full-time study.Professional Recognition
This program is professionally accredited by Engineers Australia and is designed to meet the requirements for graduate membership of Engineers Australia and comparable international institutions such as the Institution of Civil Engineers (UK).
Honours
Students achieving a credit level average at the end of third year will be allowed to enrol in honours courses in fourth year. Successful completion of the program and the honours project courses may lead to the award of the degree with honours.

It is a requirement of Engineers Australia that students complete a minimum period of 12 weeks of industrial experience in a relevant industry prior to graduation. Assessment in the course Industrial Experience N will remain incomplete until the student submits a written report and receives a pass.
- This course is part of the Master of Environmental Management and Sustainability (LMES) degree at the University of South Australia and students who complete it successfully will be given credit for the course if they gain entry to the Master's degree. Please see the relevant program home page for LMES and consult with the Program Director if you are considering a Master's option.
- Students may select a freely chosen Elective course from any other School or Division. A list of elective courses is available from the UniSA website via http://www.unisanet.unisa.edu.au/programs. The selection will be subject to availability and satisfaction of pre-requisite requirements.
