Content/structure

The program has a foundational first year that includes and introduction to mechanical, civil and electrical engineering to give a broad engineering knowledge so that graduates have an extensive understanding of basic fundamentals and an appreciation of the diversity of engineering. Courses in second and third years are arranged to give the program a practice based emphasis that provides engineering knowledge in a range of areas including materials characterisation, materials chemistry, surface engineering, thermal processing and metallurgy, polymer science, and ceramics and composites. The fourth year includes a major individual, industry based project in materials engineering.

Professional Recognition

This program is professionally accredited by Engineers Australia and is designed to meet the requirements for graduate membership of Engineers Australia and comparable international institutions such as the Institution of Civil Engineers (UK).

Honours

Students achieving a credit level average at the end of the third year will be invited to enrol in the honours project in the fourth year. Successful completion of the program and the honours project may lead to the award of a degree with honours.
