Aim

The program is designed to provide experience in continuing professional education in Catholic Studies and religious education relevant to the specific professional interests of graduates.

Entry requirements

Applicants must be teachers who have successfully completed a three-year education degree or diploma from a recognised higher education institution.

Content/structure

The Graduate Certificate in Education (Catholic Education) consists of 18 units designated as four 4.5 unit courses, three of which can be filled from a range of professional association offerings (refer to Note 1). The fourth and final course is completed at the University of South Australia and is chosen from PHIL 1007 Christian Scriptures A, PHIL 3005 Systematic Theology or PHIL 2008 Theology and Gospel.

Professional Recognition

This program is recognised by Catholic Education SA as meeting the requirements for accreditation to teach in a Catholic School and as an incentive based professional development program.

Fee information

Fees for Fee Paying Postgraduate students: $AU 2,600 per 0.5 EFTSL for students commencing in 2009.
Fees are calculated on a per Unit basis with 1.0 EFTSL = 36 Units.

Credit transfer

Credit for courses provided by the Catholic Education Office is provided for under the provisions of Policy A-13 Recognition of Prior Learning for Credit, Exemption and Studies-in-Lieu.

Rules

  1. Participants will normally be required to complete three Catholic Education Office (CEO) provided courses before enrolling in PHIL 1007 Christian Scriptures A or PHIL 3005 Systematic Theology or PHIL 2008 Theology and Gospel.

Notes

  1. The courses Professional Practice 1, 2 and 3 will be offered by staff from the Catholic Education Office (CEO) in a variety of modes. Offerings include Contemporary Theological Perspectives for Educators, Christian Scriptures, Teaching Methodologies in Religious Education and Curriculum Development in Religious Education. Participants will complete three of these CEO provided courses prior to enrolling in PHIL 1007 Christian Scriptures A or PHIL 3005 Systematic Theology or PHIL 2008 Theology and Gospel A.
