Aim
This program provides a flagship program for high achieving students in the discipline of computer and information science. This program aims to provide a broad and fundamental understanding of the theory and practice of computers and information technology and prepares graduates for a professional career in computing and research in the advanced computing industry. In addition, it aims to provide advanced program work and project work for students in computer and information science. The program will prepare students for postgraduate studies or industrial employment in leading edge computing and information technology.
Entry requirements
Applicants are required to have one of the following qualifications:
- Qualified for the SACE; and
- Recorded achievement in five SACE subjects taken at Stage 2 level; and
- Included at least four Stage 2 subjects which are approved Higher Education Selection Subjects (HESS); and
- Obtained an achievement score of 10 in Stage 2 Mathematics Studies or Mathematical Methods.
OR
Completed one of the following courses:
- Completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma;
- Completed or partly completed a recognised higher education program at a recognised higher education institution;
- Completed a recognised diploma or associated diploma from TAFE or Certificate IV level course;
- Completed at least four Open Universities Australia (OUA) courses at the appropriate level;
- Qualified for Special Entry; or
- Completed the University Foundation Program
OR
Completed one of the following professional courses:
- Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE)
- MCSE + Internet and Microsoft Certified Solution Developer (MCSD)
- Lotus Certified Professional (CLP)
- Novell Certified NetWare Engineer (CNE)
- Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA)
- Cisco Certified Networking Professional (CCNP)
For international applicants for whom English is a second language, the minimum English language requirements are:
International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic): Obtain a minimum overall score of 6.0 obtained within the last two years or corresponding results from an equivalent test such as TOEFL or the appropriate Academic English language level delivered at CELUSA; or
Successful completion of a secondary qualification in Australia within the last two years; or
Successful completion of at least one year of tertiary study in Australia within the last two years; or
Successful completion of one year of secondary or tertiary study conducted and completed in English within the last two years in a country in which:
- English is an official language; or
- English is commonly used, as determined by the University.
Content/structure
This four year program consists of core courses in information technology (49.5 units), 7 core courses (31.5 units) in advanced computer and information science topics, 6 courses of electives (27 units) selected from a range of specialty areas, 2 courses (9 units) of research laboratory placement within the school, 2 courses (9 units) of study from an area other than computing or mathematics (BUGE), and an 18 unit minor thesis undertaken in the final year of study. A total of 144 units are required for the completion of the program.

The degree is awarded with Honours.
Fee information
Fees for Domestic students: Commonwealth SupportedFees for Commonwealth Supported Students are calculated at the course level. Click on individual courses in the schedule below to determine total program fees.
Fees for International students: $AU 19,900 per 1.0 EFTSL for students commencing in 2010.
Fees are calculated on a per Unit basis with 1.0 EFTSL = 36 Units.
Fees for International students are determined one year in advance and are subject to variation.
Program requirements
Notes
- Students in other undergraduate degrees taught by the School of Computer and Information Science may be permitted to join this program at the end of the first year or second year if their grade point average is 6 or above. Students in the program must maintain a grade point average of 6 or above to remain in the program. Students in the program not achieving this in any year will revert to the Bachelor of Software Engineering degree.
- The course schedule includes two 4.5 unit BUGE electives. Students must meet the Broadening Undergraduate Education (BUGE) contrasting requirements by selecting at least two of these courses from contrasting professional core areas. These courses must not be from the areas of mathematics, computing or science.
- A student must select 5 electives (22.5 units) as shown in the schedule. These electives are grouped into standard and honours level electives, and students must select at least two honours level electives in their final year.
