Aim

This program offers a postgraduate qualification for educators in leadership in Catholic Schools and in religious education. It aims to develop critical understandings of current theories, research, debate and practice of school leadership and religious education relevant for Catholic Schools. All students will undertake research courses consistent with University and Catholic Education emphases on research.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for entry to the Master of Catholic Education, applicants must have undertaken four years of study at a recognised higher education institution, and successfully completed all of the requirements for each program including a teaching qualification.  Applicants are required to have successfully completed the Graduate Certificate in Education (Catholic Studies) or equivalent (including accredited Catholic Studies through the Catholic Education Office) or the completion of a minor or major in Catholic Studies within a pre-service teacher education degree. Applicants will be selected on the basis of academic merit. Preference will be given to applicants with approved professional experience.

Content/structure

The Master of Catholic Education is a 36 unit program which will normally be completed over two or three years by part-time students. Students usually undertake the program part-time and study one or two courses per semester. All students will undertake a research option. This may be either practitioner inquiry or more advanced options that form the basis for advanced research studies.

Professional Recognition

This program meets the requirements for an academic qualification for those seeking positions of formal leadership in Catholic Schools such as principal, deputy-principal, and religious education coordinator and for those seeking to develop educational leadership in religious education.
