Important note for Domestic students
Domestic students should consider the Graduate Entry Bachelor of Education (Middle and Secondary), a two year program offered in accelerated mode over 18 months. Graduates of the Bachelor of Education (Middle and Secondary) meet the same registration requirements as those from the Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary).

HOW TO APPLY
Applications to this program are online via UniSA's Apply Online portal

Aim

The Master of Teaching (Middle and Secondary) aims to develop skilled education professionals who have the knowledge, pedagogical and practical skills to promote effective and inclusive learning in a variety of educational settings.

Entry requirements

In order to be eligible students must have completed a three-year degree from a recognised higher education institution, or equivalent. In addition students must meet the prerequisites for the major (and where appropriate, minor) Learning Area in which they intend to specialise.

Applicants are advised that education employer authorities in South Australia will not permit any student to attend any education setting (school, pre-school or child care centre) in any capacity whatsoever without having completed a satisfactory police check. International students who are either arriving directly from another country or have been a resident of Australia for less than 6 months do not require a police check as the DIMIA visa application process incorporates a sufficient process. International students who have been a resident of Australia for 6 months or more will require a National Police Certificate. Further information will be provided to students with their letter of offer and enrolment package.

English language entry requirements

For international applicants for whom English is a second language, the minimum English language requirements are:

International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic): Minimum score of 6.0 in Reading and Writing subscores and minimum overall score of 6.5 obtained within the last two years or corresponding results from an equivalent test such as TOEFL or the appropriate Academic English language level delivered at CELUSA; or

Successful completion of a tertiary qualification at diploma level or above completed in Australia within the last two years; or

Successful completion of two or more years of tertiary study at diploma level or above conducted and completed in English within the last five years in a country in which:

Where the study in English was more than five years ago, this requirement may be satisfied by subsequent and recent work experience of two or more years duration in a setting where English is the language of business subject to satisfactory evidence as determined by the Program Director.

Content/structure

The Master of Teaching (Middle and Secondary) is equivalent to two years of full-time study, that is 72 units. The program includes studies in core courses, reflective practice courses, learning area courses and courses in inquiry and research in education settings.

Professional Recognition

Graduates will meet the academic requirement for registration as teachers in South Australia. However, applicants should note that there are other criteria determining eligibility for registration by the Teachers Registration Board of South Australia, which are outlined in the Teachers Registration and Standards Act 2004 and Teachers Registration and Standards. Regulations 2005.
