Aim
This program aims to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to design and communicate using new and traditional communication technologies and forms and an understanding of the cultural significance of new communication technologies.
Entry requirements
Applicants are required to have one of the following qualifications:
Qualified for the SACE:
- recorded achievement in five SACE subjects taken at Stage 2 level; and
- included at least four Stage 2 subjects which are approved Higher Education Selection Subjects (HESS); and
- obtained a competitive TER;
Completed the equivalent secondary education qualifications as required for University entry under SACE and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
Completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
Completed or partly completed a recognised higher education program at a recognised higher education institution and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
Completed at least four Open Universities Australia (OUA) courses at the appropriate level and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
Completed an award from TAFE or from another registered training organisation at AQF Certificate IV or above and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
Qualified for Special Entry and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
Completed the University Foundation Studies program.
English language entry requirements
For international applicants for whom English is a second language, the minimum English language requirements are:
International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic): Minimum score of 6.0 in Reading and Writing subscores and minimum overall score of 6.0 obtained within the last two years or corresponding results from an equivalent test such as TOEFL or the appropriate Academic English language level delivered at CELUSA; or
Successful completion of a secondary qualification in Australia within the last two years; or
Successful completion of at least one year of tertiary study in Australia within the last two years; or
Successful completion of one year of secondary or tertiary study conducted and completed in English within the last two years in a country in which:
- English is an official language; or
- English is commonly used, as determined by the University.
Content/structure
The Bachelor of Media Arts is equivalent to three years of full-time study or 108 units. The program includes studies in foundation courses, a major of 36 units or 8 courses, a sub-major of 27 units or 6 courses, a 4.5 unit course in Indigenous Australian studies and electives of 22.5 units or 5 courses.
Honours
A separate one year Bachelor of Arts (Honours) program is available and may be undertaken by students who complete a professional major with a credit or higher grade point average.

Fees for Domestic students: Commonwealth SupportedFees for Commonwealth Supported Students are calculated at the course level. Click on individual courses in the schedule below to determine total program fees.
Fees for International students: $AU 17,500 per 1.0 EFTSL for students commencing in 2010.
Fees are calculated on a per Unit basis with 1.0 EFTSL = 36 Units.
Fees for International students are determined one year in advance and are subject to variation.

Rules

The Bachelor of Media Arts is equivalent to three years of full-time study or 108 units. The program includes studies in foundation courses, a major, a sub- major, a course in Indigenous Australian studies and electives.
- In order to complete a Bachelor of Media Arts with a specialisation, students must complete 4 foundation courses; 8 major courses from the media arts major in the area of specialisation; 6 sub-major courses; 5 elective courses and 1 course in Indigenous Australian Studies.
Notes
- A major is a stream of related courses which comprises 36 units or eight courses, requiring two courses at level one, four courses at level two and two courses at level 3. Majors can be taken in any one of the media arts disciplines listed at Note 5 below. Students are advised to check course prerequisites and corequisites prior to selection of courses.
- A sub-major is a stream of related courses which comprises 27 units or six courses, requiring two courses at level 1 and four courses at levels 2 and 3. Sub-majors can be taken in a wide range of disciplines and are unlimited. Students should note that not all sub-majors are available on each campus, however, students may enrol in a sub-major on any campus. - The elective courses may be selected from the list available at: Majors and Minors. Students choose one elective area, in which they study five courses, totalling 22.5 units credit. Some electives may not be available to students studying an accelerated program, due to sequencing. It is recommended that students consider Animation, Web design, Drama or English as a Foreign Language as their elective area.
Students completing the Interactive Multimedia Major, Digital Design Major or Web Development Major may select the following 9 unit course at Level 3: GRAP 3009 Graphic Communication for Design
- All students, other than International students and students who have elected to complete either a sub-major or elective in Indigenous Studies, must complete the course COMM 2060 Communication, Culture & Indigenous Australians. International students and students who have selected to complete either a sub-major or elective in Indigenous Studies will study four Electives at Level 3, two each in Study Period 2 and Study Period 5.
