Aim

To prepare graduates to work in a diverse and changing range of services for the education and care of children from birth to eight years of age.

Entry requirements

Hong Kong - Applicants will be required to have successfully completed the 3 year full-time Higher Diploma in Child Care and Education (full-time) or an equivalent Diploma. Applicants are expected to be involved in professional practice related to education. The program will be delivered in English and all admitted students will have the required English level - IELTS 6.0 for reading and writing with an overall total of 6.5.

Singapore - Applicants must have a minimum qualification of an approved polytechnic diploma or a qualification at Diploma in Pre-School Education: Teaching level and/or Diploma in Pre-School Education: Leadership level from a recognised institution in Singapore. Applicants are expected to be involved in professional practice related to education. The program will be delivered in English and all admitted students will have the required English level - IELTS 6.0 for reading and writing with an overall total of 6.5.

Content/structure

Students will complete courses totalling 54 units in an eighteen-month program of 12 courses. This is an existing program taught in distance learning mode to local and overseas students.

Honours

This degree may be awarded with Honours for meritorious performance in the program. Students will be selected into the Honours stream on academic merit in accordance with University policy.

Rules

  1. To gain entry into the with Honours stream students must maintain a high Credit average in graded courses across the first five terms of the program in Singapore and across the first four terms of the program in Hong Kong.
  2. To receive the degree with Honours, selected students must achieve a Credit in EDUC 4080 Honours 1 (ECE) and EDUC 4088 Honours 2 (ECE) and maintain a Credit average in graded courses in Terms 5 and 6 of the award.

Notes

  1. Students selected for Honours in Singapore will complete EDUC 4080 Honours 1 (ECE) and EDUC 4088 Honours 2 (ECE) in place of EDUC 2003 Current Emphases in Child Development Birth - 8 Years and EDUC 1039 Early Childhood Practitioner Research.
