Aim

The program will enable holders of three year diplomas or two-year associate degrees in a wide range of areas from Polytechnics, and those with a similar background of prior learning which may include both educational qualifications and professional experience, to upgrade their qualifications to degree level in the field of Communication and Media Management.

Entry requirements

The Bachelor of Arts (Communication and Media Management) is designed to provide a degree level program to holders of approved three year polytechnic (or equivalent) qualifications at diploma or advanced diploma level, or accredited associate degrees of a minimum of two years. Applicants must be considered equal to the level of education required to gain entry to a bachelor's degree plus meet the requirements of having completed the equivalent of 1.0 or 1.5 years of university study, depending on entry point. Applicants must have achieved Band 6.0 on the IELTS test with a subscore of 6.0 in reading and writing, or equivalent.

Content/structure

The Bachelor of Arts (Communication and Media Management) consists of 108 units. Students entering with associate degrees or with three year polytechnic (or equivalent) qualifications will receive block credit of 54 units and to qualify for the award must complete 54 units of the program. Students entering with other appropriate diploma or advanced diploma qualifications will received block credit of 36 units and to qualify for the award must complete 72 units of the program. The schedule below reflects the credit gained on entry. Students are to complete the courses as specified in the program schedule for the country in which they are taking the award. The courses are sequenced to allow students to develop through three stages over a period of up to 2 full-time equivalent years, depending on number of units to be completed.

Honours

Students who attain an outstanding level of performance in the program will be eligible for entry to the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) offered at Magill Campus.

Notes

  1. The program will be taught using a combination of flexible learning techniques, including intensive onsite seminars/workshops supported by print resources and online documentation.
  2. Hong Kong students receiving block credit for 54 units of the award are exempted from the following courses: COMM 1009 Communication and the Media S, COMM 1011 Communication: Rhetoric and Reasoning S and COMM 1012 New Media and International Communication S.
  3. As the program involves regular use of internet, email etc, students must possess or have convenient access to a personal computer, with software compatible with the University's own systems, and an account with an Internet Service Provider to enable them to access materials electronically from the University, and to participate in appropriate pedagogic interaction.
